Cover Story

The Sun, our mother star, presents many activities in its atmosphere, including solar flares, filament eruptions, and coronal mass ejections. These eruptions might pose significant influence on the world we are living in. The hydrogen Hα line has been widely used to observe these eruptive phenomena. However, almost all these observations were conducted on the ground. On October 14, 2021, China launched the first solar observing satellite, which is called Chinese Hα Solar Explorer (CHASE). The satellite measures the Hα and Fe spectra of the full Sun with high temporal and spectral resolutions. The picture on the journal cover illustrates the CHASE mission observing the Sun while orbiting around the Earth. The blue-red picture depicts the full-Sun Dopplergram obtained by CHASE (See the article (No. 289602) by Chuan Li et al.).
